September 11, 2001
Two things are true about September 11, 2001.
On that day, cold-blooded terrorists murdered more than 3,000 Americans.
But on that day, and in the days to come, so many Americans also risked and gave their lives to save other people. Firefighters, police officers, workers in the Twin Towers, passengers on United Flight 93 and everyday people who rushed down to Ground Zero — they exhibited a selflessness and heroism that will live on long after all of us are gone.
So as we remember all those we lost on the day, let us also remember and honor those who showed us what the best of America looks like. And let’s challenge ourselves to rediscover that spirt of unity and togetherness we all felt in the wake of 9/11 and that we desperately need now to navigate these challenging times.
